It was their first album in seven years since "A Momentary Lapse," and it became a worldwide bestseller. This album, which was produced by Gilmour, had been released intermittently since the previous year, and Richard Wright, who had left the band due to a conflict with Waters, was also a full member and took on lead vocals. The woman who wrote the lyrics for this album would later become Mrs. Gilmour.
